review 1: When we last left off, Ciel was in the midst of the cricket game that he's trying to win in hopes of gaining an invitation to meet the headmaster via invite to the 'midnight tea'. As with the previous volume, much of this one is wasted on the tediously boring cricket match. However, the match has some much more entertaining elements when Lau shows up with his brood of ladies for the sole purpose of being a distraction tactic. Truth be told, I love the seediness of Lao's character, and mixing him in with stiff, sophisticated, uppercrust folks was a hilarious idea that played off well. It was also very relieving to see the cricket game finally(!) come to a pleasant end.Overall, I felt this was definitely not one of Black Butler's strongest volumes, but then, I haven't felt t... morehe plot in this one arc has been very strong either. Fortunately, with the surprise cameo of Lau, and the revelation of who exactly the Headmaster really is, leaves plenty of promise for this arc to finish strong. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, Yana Toboso has a knack for employing her vast range of characters at just the right moments and with the ending cliffhanger of this volume, she does not disappoint. I'm actually really looking forward to the next installation.
review 2: Amazing!i don't know why people say that the cricket scenes where boring but i think they where absolutely amazing, they gave the story a very interesting point of view and also i learned a little about how cricket is played.i loved that in this volume we FINALLY get to see Ciel really smile! like really really smile from the bottom of his heart, i thought it was such a touching scene because at the beginning of the story we only see Ciel full of hatred and frustration and he NEVER smiled (except if it was needed like an act) not until now, we start seeing a new Ciel that's starting to change and heal the wounds in his heart. less
