review 1: I wanted to like this book especially with the set up of the first chapter. Ends up the first chapter was the best part of the book. I found the translation British like, for example "she pulled a face". I cared less and less about the mystery as the book went on, Thora is suppose to be a lawyer but acts much more like a detective, pretty sure in real life people would be telling her to bugger off. Towards the end of the book after I was tired of reading the constant speculations of Thora that really never went anywhere I took to a lot of skimming through the book but I still ended up giving up and never finishing.....
review 2: 3 1/2 really but it is the second in the series that I have read and I will be back for the third. I enjoyed this more than the first o
... morene perhaps because it involved less witchcraft. Still find all the Icelandic names a little difficult to keep in my mind but I am improving. Watching The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has given me some visual pictures of the ladscape to go along with my impression of the main characters. Was delighted to see Matthew back from Germany and I love Thora's dysfunctionally functional family. And I quite enjoyed the detective work that went with it but what's with these weird methods of murdering people. And yes, Nazism returned as a spectre from the past. less
