review 1: So, I didn't enjoy this one. I didn't find it scary, but that's not really why I didn't enjoy it. I just couldn't grab onto this author's writing style. The way it was written actually distracted me from the story instead of adding to the creepy atmosphere. It felt like the author was using a thesaurus to try to spice up her writing and it all seemed very forced. I'm afraid I can't recommend this one.
review 2: There were elements about this book I really liked. Dead woman in the bathtub, ghost bird-eating child tossing women downstairs and a child taken away from a horror he was never aware of...only to return years later to the same house where the bird munching boy still causes trouble. It has a good set up, so good, in fact, I decided reading it before be
... mored was a bad idea. The next morning I dove in expecting a fantastic horror novel...and it fell to cliche and time worm tropes. There was no deep revelation regarding the birds, just an understanding that the horror hadn't ended. For me, it never began. less
