review 1: What a lovley Christmas read, this is number 11 in a series of Christmas novellas by the same author. You don't have to have read the previous books, but it does mention things that happened in previous books.Wonderful writing ill definitely be reading the other novellas, a great murder mystery set in Victorian times. Our main character comes from a rich background, however she works at a hospital for prostitutes, so is very humble.
review 2: Perry has given us a new character that I would like to see more of -- Claudine Burroughs, with a pass by Squeaky Robinson, one of her scruffy ne'er-do-well's that turns out to be a rather roughly friendly and helpful guy.Three young scions of the elite have done away with prostitute at a fancy ball and blame a poet with a... more rather dubious character, because they can with their sense of entitlement and the belief that they can do anything they wish to and get away with it because of their station and their family's money.Claudine, one of the elite but older and unhappy because she accepted the marriage her father set up for her only to live a life of belittlement and disappointment. She works at Hester's clinic and thus her sense of right and wrong is offended and she and Squeaky go on a crusade.Always, Perry delivers a story of touching concern for others and doesn't disappoint. less
