Inspector Erlendur
review 1: This is another excellent book in an Icelandic detective series. Inspector Erlendur is not the main character in this book, it is focused on one of his detectives. The period covered is the frantic, out of control financial period around 2008, right before the financial crisis hit. It offers two parallel investigations/mysteries, one that centers on a homeless, alcoholic who was a victim of child abuse and on dirty dealings in the financial sector. As in many of the Scandinavian mysteries, there are complex characters and social/psychological insights. Although his characters might not always be likeable, the reader is given a more complex view than most mysteries offer, thus making the characters more realistic.
review 2: Erlendur is on leave in Eastern I
... moreceland and never appears at all in Black Skies although he is mentioned from time to time by his colleagues. Sigurdur Oli is left to try and solve a case of blackmail and murder among the members of a swingers club, some of whom are old school friends of his. Meanwhile, Siggi (he hates to be called that!) has heard from his dad that he is in a risk group for prostate cancer. Bad things happen in threes and to add insult to injury, his ex Bergthora is seeing someone new. Erlundur never does return to the station, but Siggi is able to resolve at least one of his three issues. less

It's not really an Inspector Elendur novel since he's not in it. It's a Sigurdur Oli novel.
