review 1: So many of these types of books are murder after murder, often in graphic detail. This was much more a character study of the people surrounding the murder of a little boy. You got to know dozens and dozens of people as the police did their search. I read most of the last half of the book on a rainy day outside on the porch and it was a great setting for it. I may have read others in the series but will now go back and find them.
review 2: Another in the series of Icelandic crime novels with the primary character Detective Erlendur. This novel deals with the death of a young Thai-Icelandic child, and the difficulty Erlendur faces in solving the crime. Fearful immigrants, xenophobic locals, troubled youths all impede the investigation. Interwoven throughou... moret is an interesting subplot about a missing person case...a woman goes missing after she leaves her adulterous husband and Erlendur is convinced she's alive. While these novels lack the excitement and fantastic plots of Jo Nesbo, they are very engaging and great at developing characters. less
