review 1: As far as trilogies go, the story ended quite well. In Pines, we are introduced to the major players, the pragmatic philosophy of survival and the fate of humanity. Typically, the middle book in a trilogy drags, but not in this set. Wayward (#2) was better than the launch (Pines) and was full of action, character development, and major turning points. The Last Town (Book 3) was a fast read to see how everything ends. There is betrayal, significant damages, and pure uncertainty when faced with reality. I won’t go into detail as I don’t want to ruin the read for others. I will simply say that it was fulfilling and ended well. It is worth the time to go back and read the first two before diving into this one.I enjoyed the trilogy and am new to Blake Crouch (author). I... more’m confident I’ll be devouring more adventures of his.Read November 2014: Kindle Edition
review 2: Again, a book that proves that trilogies can be the most rewarding of experiences. Top shelf entertainment here, written with a fairly workman style but filled to the brim with humanity and fantastic ideas. It was truly thrilling to see how all of the various threads of the stories all intertwined at the end, even more rewarding that the theme of the books is one of hope, not nihilism. Perhaps most impressive is the rapid-fire pace of the story, from the moment we meet the main character to the last moment of the last book not a great deal of time has passed and yet SO MUCH has transpired. Like watching an apocalypse in time-lapse but with certain moments perfectly framed. Would have been 4 1/2 stars as well, amazing trilogy very highly recommended to anyone that appreciates fantastic fiction. less

Actually a great finish to the series, which is supposed to become a Fox mini-series in 2015.
