review 1: "A Modern Witch" is a clever mix of contemporary and fantasy. The story revolves around witches in the modern day, but there is no epic showdown, no bad guy to be defeated. It is simply a story about a witch family that trains other witches and manages to track down a woman who has power, but never knew she was a witch. The story is humorous and heartwarming, and very character driven. It definitely made me smile.I purchased the audiobook version, which was very well done. The narrator does a really good job bringing the story to life, and keeping all the characters identifiable. There are a lot of women in this book, so there were times the voice were a little hard to distinguish, but never so much that it detracted from my enjoyment. One of the things I really lik... moreed about this book is the way romance was handled. There is a bit of a romance storyline, and while it is important to the story, it feels very natural, and is subtly woven in the background. It is very much like romance in real life: it is not shoved in your face, but to pretend it does not affect anyone involved would do it a disservice. Overall, I am very impressed and enjoyed my experience, and I have bought the next audiobook in the series.
review 2: Loved this story! I'm now a big fan of Debora Geary and looking forward to book #2. I really liked how the witches had conversations on the computer. Reminds me of how I talk to some of my friends, except they aren't witches, I think. Between the family of witches, there was a lot of respect, love, and unity. The story was unique, and kept me interested from the first few pages. When I read the last page, I was so happy. It was the perfect ending. Excellent and very enjoyable read! less
