review 1: First I have to mention that I am not a fan of how the new trend seems to be writers release little snippets almost as prologues to entice people to buying their next book. So why did I want to read this then? Diane Chamberlain is one of my favorite authors and so of course I was interested when I saw this available on netgalley. Unfortunately for me my request to read it was granted just days prior to the archival date so I didn't get to download it in time to read it from there so I ended up buying from amazon anyway to avoid having my netgalley review percent damaged. Ranting aside, I did enjoy this snippet (not sure what to call just 41 pages) I will read the silent sister but that really has more to do with I expect to like Diane's books than what I read here. It is m... moreerely a brief introduction to the characters and I wish it was just the prologue to the book instead of a separate purchase.
review 2: It is such a trend these days to put out a little novella before a new book is published. In this case, I liked the story and now that I have started The Silent Sister, there are several things that I learned in the novella that I am glad to know. I have a better understanding of the relationship between Riley and her brother. Also, the collections and the things that were important to her parents. But I do wonder why they don't just put the novella in the book - it is good information to have and is a part of the overall story. less
