review 1: This was a fun read that was mostly set in my favorite city, London! I really enjoyed the character dynamics and there was plenty of drama to keep me intrigued in the story. I really wanted more of an ending though. I felt like the entire story was leading up to some big romantic gesture or something. It almost felt like the friendships were meant to be at the forefront, rather than the romance, which I enjoyed, just wasn't expecting it.
review 2: Unfortunately, although I wanted to, I didn't like this book. 1. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. The only two I liked were Oscar and Mr Allan.2. The dialogue was frustrating, repetitious and unrealistic. 3. The narrative was way too long - entire pages with no action or dialogue and only two or three pa... moreragraph breaks but nothing especially interesting to move the story on; focus on conversations and scenes that were redundant and could have been replaced with so much more (i.e. why start the book with the letter from her mother to only give the reason for her parents' divorce a couple of paragraphs at the end? Was it only about Kate doing a runner like her mother? Not good enough.)4. I also felt robbed after committing to 457 pages only to be dealt a fast-forward ending that was really unsatisfying. Although I sound snarky, I did like the plot and sub-plots, the twist, and the flash back/forward structure. They were the only things that kept me reading in the hope the book would improve. I *wanted* it to get better!Ultimately, I feel the whole novel could have been much more enjoyable if only for the strict wielding of a red pen. The editing process let this one down. less
