The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier

review 1: Usually, I'm a big fine of Jack Campbell's books, but this one was a bit too slow moving for my tastes. Took quite awhile to get to the action, but when it finally wrapped up at the end, it was very interesting. I wish I could have given it four stars, but my policy is that if it doesn't capture my attention enough to keep me reading, and I find myself putting it down to read other books, its an immediate three star rating. Still like the series, and am definitely moving on to the next book though.
review 2: "Beyond the Frontier" opens up the universe of the "Lost Fleet" to include multiple alien races. Campbell gets a chance to create some aliens with both unique physical features and matching psychological and cultural features. And of course, Adm. Geary c... moreontinues to command the fleet in battle, even in "peacetime". This is a more interesting read than the "Dreadnought" story which preceded it, mostly because the aliens are interesting in their own right. less
