Infinity Ring
review 1: I like adventure stories, historical fiction and dystopian novels. A Mutiny in Time which sets up the Infinity Ring series is all of these genres. The story starts in the present day with 2 fifth grade protagonists, one boy and one girl, who happen to be geniuses. A Mutiny in Time should attract a wide audience with such broad genres and set-up. The series is popular here at my public library and I can see why. I won't finish the series, there are too many other books in my pile, but I will recommend this title wholeheartedly.
review 2: The Story-Students Dak Smyth and Sera Froste are both geniuses in their own regard. Dak has a unique ability to remember history and Sera is able to understand quantum physics. One afternoon they sneak into Dak's parent's sec
... moreret lab and discover the Infinity Ring, a time traveling device that is almost finished. Of course, Sera is able to finish it.It is then that things go horribly wrong. Dak's parents are lost in time and Dak and Sera are both kidnapped and taken to the Historians headquarters. There they learn that the world they live in is coming apart. That events in the past happened incorrectly and that the resulting disturbances in the time line are causing the Earth to collapse. The Historians have been waiting for someone to create a time travel device, so that they can go fix the breaks in time. However, while the Historians have waited thousands of years, the SQ their enemies, have taken advantage of the time breaks and become rich and powerful. They want the time breaks to continue.Dak and Sera's first mission is to save Christopher Columbus from a mutiny. My Thoughts-This is a fun series for kids and there is even an online game to go with everything. The books will be written by different authors, so there will be different styles and art.Okay, here is what I liked. The whole first part of the book we watch Dak and Sera going about their daily lives, and living in a world where history is obviously wrong (to us, not them). They mention things like the US capitol being Philadelphia and Mount Rushmore with different Presidents on it. I loved picking up on the little and big clues the author gives about what is out-of-sorts.Then we have our two main characters who are great. Dak spouts out random bits of history, so excited to learn anything new. I felt so bad for him when he realized that the history he knew was wrong. Sera is fun too, she is a science whiz and able to figure out problems that adults have trouble doing. My only question, and hopefully it will be answered later in the series, is what made events go wrong in the past? How did someone know to change things?Action, adventure and puzzles! 4 stars! less
