review 1: The time-traveling trio, Dak, Sera, and Riq, find themselves in a very dangerous place and time in the history of the United States. They arrive in 1850 right before the Civil War, and are tricked into hiding in a cellar that they believe is part of the Underground Railroad, but it turns out that the SQ has infiltrated the organization. Times being what they were then, Riq is kidnapped and put on an auction block alongside several others. There is plenty of action and courage as the three risk their slaves to help others. Middle grade readers will love this title and the series with extra information online.
review 2: We finished listening to this book during our drive to school. The kids enjoyed this story as much as the others. I liked how this story focus... moreed more on Riq. I was wondering after the second book if he was ever going to be more than a secondary character. The other books seemed to have him being like the parents of the Beverly Hills 90210, only present to provide a means instead of "a miracle occurs" moment. His story does provide more questions than answers, though, but at least my questions are more direct than abstract concerning Riq. We will continue listening to this series. less
