review 1: I seem to be running on a backward trend. I started with Ben, followed with Alex and now Jake. The men too good to be true. . .Amazing story, a little debatable about Saudis, I liked Sage but I think I prefer Rina and Alex just a tad more. But Jake. . . yeah Jake... He can hold his own, he definitely holds his own.*sigh*Sometimes I wonder why I torture myself. Than I remember these guys and somehow I figure its worth it.Because they are, truly remarkable and their stories bring hope. For their lives are as ordinary as can be and that is the true beauty. The phenomenon of a happy, life long journey, (hate to call it a happy "ending") in a average man/woman(s) life. For one can never truly be ordinary, as no two are alike.
review 2: Against the Sun by Kat Martin,
... moreFor me it was okay. Ms. Martin comes up with some fairly decent plots and the writing and editing has continued to improve since her early books. Sage Dumont is a strong, smart woman that works as a VP in her family's oil company but of course when she meets Jake she turns into a whimpering, breathless female. One thing that annoys me is that it happens from the very first meeting. They become breathless and hot and hard and ..... you get it, from their first meeting. There's no buildup, no strength on the part of the female at all.The action is predictable, the bad guy instantly identifiable and the ending - kind of meh. Jake and Sage fall into bed and there's the usual "this can't last, we come from different worlds" stuff. Sage turns down Jake's marriage proposal, he gets mad and packs up to leave Houston, leaving the little boy he has mentored in Big Brothers/Big Sisters hanging. The characters are pretty lightweight and shallow. It was interesting learning a tiny bit of business protocol when dealing with Muslims that I hadn't heard before. There's some pretty lame, schmaltzy dialog and standard romance-novel stuff but in the end it's still a light frothy summer read and people that love romance novels will like this one too. less
