review 1: This picks up immediately after the events of Book #2!1. Characters: ★★★★✩Loved seeing Emily and all the old characters again! Emily is really awesome and learning so much and gaining so much confidence. At the same time, she's struggling with this internal conflict with darkness and I love it. Loved learning more about the elves. The new characters I wanted more back story, but book 3 ended!2. Plot: ★★★★★Fantastic plot as always. The pace is fantastic!3. Art (in lieu of writing): ★★★★★Hands down, Kazu Kibuishi is my favorite graphic artist. His style is by far my favorite. It's gorgeous.4. Feels: ★★★✩✩Not much, but I liked the moments between Emily and her mother.5. Ending: ★★★★✩Cliffhanger! Again. But so awesome and I can... more't wait to find out more!!! OMG Cielis looks awesome!6. Overall Enjoyment: ★★★★★Final Rating: ★★★★✩ (4.3 stars to be exact!)
review 2: My kids keep haranguing me to keep reading this series, so I plod on. Strangely, the series gets better as it goes. Way in danger of falling into Star Warsy, Chosen Onesy, Harry Pottery finale/destiny/awfulness, Amulet actually keeps it real by introducing all kinds of ambiguity into the characters and the over-arching plot crap. Like, is the emo elf prince really a villain? Are Stonekeepers really all they're cracked up to be? Why does Emily's stone suddenly have a face that looks just like the evil elf king? What the hell happened to the evil elf king?Throw in some more awesome skyships, a lost cloud city in the middle of an eternal storm, and a metal-faced elf assasin bastard and you got some good story goin' on. Kibuishi excels at pace as well, his action frames read like an 80s sci-fi action film, all heart and well-judged. I could probably at this point start recommending this to other adults who like this kind of thing. less
