review 1: Truthfully, I kind of gave up on this world. It's too haphazard, with every new book introducing new characters and wrinkles to suit (and make dramatic) the particular story line. Personal preference is for books that establish a world from the outset and then live within that world, fully and completely. It breaks my trust with the narrative when the rules are bent or new creatures/characters/mythologies are introduced to serve the current plot.
review 2: This book is another gem by Kristen Callihan. It has supplanted Winterblaze as my current favorite in the series. This is the story of Jack and Mary, two intriguing characters who'd been introduced in previous books. The writing was excellent, as usual, and the plotting was superb. This was a largely characte... morer-driven story that built slowly but inexorably to a very satisfying ending. I found it hard to put down and thankfully had a fully charged ereader when it landed. I love this world that Callihan has created and though there are many characters at this point, each is so well-drawn that it isn't difficult to keep track of who is who. Books in this series will continue to be autobuys for me. I can't recommend this series highly enough and would advise starting at the beginning. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book, Evernight. less
