review 1: I liked Wake okay....this one I really didn't like. The plot felt contrived and Janie could have done her 'job' just as easily without her dream powers...in fact, she didn't really use them at all in regards to that - which makes me wonder - why bother with that aspect of the story at all? Also, the people didn't interact/react like real people. And there was too much swearing. Like, way, way too much. Overall, the book seemed kind of pointless.
review 2: So to start off I would just like to say that this book was spectacular. I love how McMann really took the storyline from "Wake" and not only developed Cabel and Janie's relationship, but also brought in some heavy layers of mystery with the case at school and Janie's new insight on her ability as a Dream Catche
... morer. Also, I honestly love how Janie and Cabel work with agents of some police force, it really brings the tension illustrated in this series to a whole new level. A lot of the things I want to reiterate would only spoil your experience with the story, therefore I'm not going to go into much detail on what happens in the book. In the shortest form possible, they take on an investigation of sexual predation occurring at their school. Janie uses her ability to tap into the haunting dreams of some students whom have been the victim of these cases, meanwhile putting herself at constant risk in order to try to unearth who the predator is. This causes major strain in the teens' relationship, and even though our main character is a strong, empowered person, who is discovering not only her ability but her future, not even she can predict the events that will take place. I once again highly recommend this book to children and/or teens of all levels of reading. The storyline is very addicting and very easy to comprehend. The series is rightfully categorized under young adult and paranormal due to its modern plot and dialogue, as well as its supernatural aspects with Janie's ability. I would like to recommend this mainly towards girls in middle school AKA junior high because of the strong message that is portrayed in this edition of the Dream Catcher series. Not only does it encourage self empowerment, strength, leadership, love, and overall girl power; but it also heeds a serious warning about the dangers that can be imposed on females whether it be at school or just life in general. In some ways, the investigation of sexual predators at Janie's school is a cautionary tale of what can and does happen to people in all walks of life. However, anyone can read this series and find a resonating theme at which they can not only relate to but also rave about... Hence GoodReads. :) less
