review 1: Series is great, including all the spin off series (which is good because some of the overall story interplays between the various series)... This is a great example of where a story was really good but could have been so so much more. Each book is about a couple (or in the other series' a menage) each story could stand on it's own and the story running in the background is continued right the way through all the books. The big let down is there seems to be some major time issues, and a few times I was a gape at the plot holes and an over abundance of sex scenes in some situations that it just didn't make sense. Hence the three stars. So I liked all of what I've read so far. I've still got a few more to go but I can't see them taking a dive in my opinion. I would like to f... moreind something else that the author has spent more time on and I suspect that it's gonna be brilliant writing because her character building is good, when she's not trying to put in a needless sex scene.
review 2: This book was my introduction to Lynn Hagen stories and The Brac Universe (Brac Pack, Brac village, Christian's Coven, Demon Warriors, Zues's Pack and The Exiled) and it got me hooked. If you're a fan of paranormal shifter stories in general and the mate trope in particular there really aren't going to be any surprises here: There's the recognition of a mate by scent, the over protectiveness, the possessiveness, the Alpha male shifter and his less dominant mate and all the things a fan of the genre would come to expect. So even though the story didn't break any new ground, I found it engaging and enjoyable. I loved Cecil and Maverick and while I know some people don't like "instant love" it doesn't bother me. There was the right amount of heat and sweet and enough of a plot to keep me reading and get me hooked on the entire 'verse. less
