The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel
review 1: This final book in the series brought the whole story to a somewhat satisfying conclusion. However, Scott seemed to have so many characters involved in so many battles in different time periods that the book felt like it was jumping around from one place to another way too fast! I think he needed to focus on a few of the main characters rather than trying to juggle too big a cast. Overall, this was an enjoyable read but also somewhat frustrating.
review 2: I planned on reading maybe 100 pages in one sitting today, but I ended up reading almost 350, I think that does say at least something about the reading experience itself. In comparison to the Warlock, this would be a good, five stars, though compared to the other five books as a whole, it's a solid four.
... moreBut while I feel like it was so much better than the fifth, it still had some parts that were kind of questionable, but with what everything that Michael Scott threw together in the first five books, I think this was probably the best way for him to tie up as many of the storylines as possible. Unlike the last book, there weren't as many new characters added, and I could pretty easily keep all the storylines set in my head quite easily, and since all the introductions and the explanations of magic was done, the action was so much more fluid and less explanations were needed. I was really scared about the ending and I thought it might have ended being very, blandly, but it was actually a very surprising ending that I honestly felt like did in fact tie up the series to the best of its ability. There were some dry parts where the dialogue or narration became slightly redundant, but overall I am definitely satisfied with this book and how it ended, and I'm sure my 10 year old self that first read the Alchemyst would be too. less

I was determined to read the whole series and I made it. Honestly, it was a bit of a chore. Something about Scott's writing style just doesn't resonate with me. I often fell asleep while reading, and during action parts. I liked a lot of the characters, plot twists, and mythology, but I never came to love any of them or the books. In this book in particular, I got really annoyed with the fight on the bridge, it didn't make any sense whatsoever. For instance, let's hold a whole conversation letting our enemy know exactly where we are and use no strategy whatsoever. (eyeroll) I found the whole vimana/flying saucer thing a bit goofy. But, the reveal of Death's identity was fascinating if sad, and pulled a lot of the story together.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was the feeling it was a bit rushed. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the ending, though it blew me out of the water, it left me feeling somewhat sad because I was hoping for more of a closure with the twins in the ending. Because there was more of Josh in the ending, Sophie never really got to say how she felt about how things ended. All in all the series is now one of my favourites and I recommend it to those who are a fan of mythology.

I enjoyed this book. Resolution was a bit quick and could have wrapped up with a bit more detail.
