review 1: I couldn't put this book down after I started! It follows a great storyline about a tween named Charlie Gaines, and how he influenced the season for the LA Bulldogs football team. Charlie's best friend's grandpa is the owner of the team. After mentioning a QB to the owner, Charlie's entire life changes as the team ends up drafting Tom. Known as the 'Brain' at school for being the Fantasy King, Charlie becomes even more famous as his friends hear about him being the 'General Manager'. At first I was scared to read this novel because Charlie was not a star athlete like most characters in Mike Lupica's books. However, the character has different strengths due to his great knowledge. All in all, it was a great story to relate to as a football fan.
review 2: Fantasy
... more League by Mike Lupica explains the life of a football genius. Charlie "Brain" Gaines is a fantasy football know it all. He also plays on his local football team. Charlie never had done much on his actual football team which is why he loved fantasy football so much. His friend Anna convinced him to have a podcast and discuss his fantasy picks on it. The podcast aired on the local sports radio and he was recognized be the LA Bulldogs, his local NFL team. The LA Bulldogs have never been very good and that's why they called in Charlie for some advice on what to do. This book was very good. I liked it so much because I like football and it seemed pretty cool that a teenage kid would be calling the shots on an NFL team. The only thing that I didn't like was that it was a little repetitive. Other than that it is a great book. I would recommend this book to boys and girls in grades 5-8 who like football. This book would be recommended to those people because it's all about football, there is some tough vocabulary and there is a boy and girl main character. Hopefully you'll get to read this book. less
