review 1: First Mo Hayder book and I'll seek out more. why? She has a good story to tell. THis book kept me guessing till the end, though I have to admit I had my eye on her guy about page 100. My sister once shared that the killer is always in the plot line by page 100 so with this in mind it wasn't hard to figure out, yet still, Ms. Hayder had me wondering for a long time whether or not I was right. It involves children being kidnapped so if you're squeamish on the subject, don't read. It involves an intricate plot line of a hard to describe scene which only means there were two chapters I got lost in the laden down description of the place. Understood why it had to be done, but wish Ms. Hayder had picked an easy scene to describe. I know that sounds silly and lazy on my part, but... more the plot unfolds seamlessly and the action is tense and then you get to a point where it's "Oh, we're here again in the hull of a ship, underground, in an area that I can't envision and well…okay…I'll skim" But that's the only issue - two chapters only- that I had. Otherwise a very tense thriller
review 2: Surprisingly good book! It took me a while to get used to some of the British phrases. There were several subplots, so it was hard to put down. I did figure out who the killer was long before the characters did, but because of the many subplots, I was still interested. I also didn't feel like I missed much not having read the first four books in the series. It works as a stand-alone book as well. less
