review 1: Those who know me are well aware I like my books big, which is why I was excited for this one: a well reviewed 950 page behemoth billed as sci-fi-mystery-horror. It certainly touched on all of the mentioned genres, however I will say that I found it to be overly long. There is a very tight story in this book, and it would have worked better (in my opinion) had he cut about half of what I feel was chaff. Still, I enjoyed it.
review 2: It's a good book for any scifi fan, but not his best. He works you up into a state of confusion, that's good, about 2/3rds of the way thru the book. It could literally go anywhere from that point. But he punts, and the book ends in the worst way possible. Just like in 2312, it just lingers for far too long. Hopefully he gets back... more to his Pandoras Star roots in his next book, I'll buy that book, hardcover edition. less
