review 1: This was a good book. It's somewhere between three and four stars for me. I will probably read the next one in the series..but as interesting as it is, I was not drawn to any of the characters overly much. I might have become more interested in Arlen, if we had stuck with his story. I believe that the missing years allowed me to distance myself from the character. And the others weren't as deeply developed. Story was interesting though.
review 2: This series is amazing, but not for the faint of heart. It has prolonged cases of socially shunned practices that make you sick, sad, and hurt, and it is not over quick. But, you will love/hate characters all the more for it.But, be aware nothing is over quick. TEST: If you can make it through the first few cha... morepters of book one. You can handle it. There were prolonged tales of rape (while not vulgar in vernacular) sickening to read for more than 30 minutes at a time. Audible books is slower than reading the book yourself if you are a fast reader, but can be rewarding. I prefer to buy this series on audible to give me a story to follow when cleaning or other monotonous takes, and the narrator for this series is brilliant. I long for the next book release, Skull Throne, and I have no clue whether I will be able to wait for audibles to get it. less
