What better place to start recounting my summer travels than with my most recent vacation to Newport, Rhode Island?
I had never been to Newport before but I heard that it was such a fun place to explore I simply had to check it out! So my mom and I packed our bags and headed off on a two-day trip!
We decided to stay at the Francis Malbone House, which was the best possible option. The 1758 colonial house is located in town, a block and a half from the wharf, and just a few blocks down from Bellevue Avenue, where all of the glorious mansions are located. Although it has a very central location in town, it provides a quiet space for its guests with elegant period rooms and a small courtyard. The House is a quaint B&B that serves hearty breakfasts and delicious afternoon tea. We arrived just in time for tea!

After being reinvigorated by the tea, we made a bee line for the Cliff Walk to get in some of the iconic seaside views before dinner. It was 100% worth it!

Once we had walked for a little over a mile, we realized that the Cliff Walk is in fact INCREDIBLY LONG and we foolishly though we could be finished in an hour or two. So we headed back just in time for dinner at Bouchard, a French restaurant recommended by the Malbone House’s concierge.

The food was absolutely outstanding! I don’t think you could have gone wrong with a single option on the menu. We finished our meal with their classic grand marnier soufflé, which I highly recommend! Bouchard is a must if you’re in Newport and want some amazing food and an excuse to dress up (proper attire is required, but they’re not snooty about it).
We then headed back to the Francis Malbone House to get some much needed rest. On our walk we stopped into Frazzleberries- a cute little souvenir shop that has great quality Newport themed goods- to pick up some little gifts for ourselves and the family.
Once back at the Malbone House, we found tasty cookies laid out for the guests. They truly think of everything!
And with that, my first day in a Newport came to an end. Part 2 will be up soon!
