review 1: The author displayed a shocking lack of knowledge concerning the protocols and traditions of 19th Century naval warfare within the first pages, which was a huge turn off. The anachronistic PDA wasn't helping, either. But what really made me give up on this one was the "love at first sight" premise, to which I not only object in general but does not seem in keeping with the established characters of either protagonist. I am unlikely to try much more from the published Austen fan fiction genre - it is so largely disappointing.
review 2: I enjoyed this. I know many didn't like the tangent it took at the end but I did. I liked this one a lot more than Mr. Darcy's Diary or Mr. Knightly's Diary. I actually thouht the flashback style of writing wss creative and
... moremade the book more interesting. I thouht this would be a skimmer but I ended up reading it all. I get bored when it is just he same story retold because I have read so many that I just want to skip to something new but this had enouh variey I didn't feel that way except for a few parts that moved a little too slow. Persuasion is probably my second favorite of Austen's novels so I enjoyed this retelling. less

I thought this book rang true to the original. I would give it 3.5 stars.

Amusing but it's hard to tamper with Jane Austin and come out ahead.
