review 1: That's a kick-ass cover! I'm so intrigued by this King Ezekiel and his violence-hating tiger...A lot of stuff happened in this issue--the previous issue was a slower lead into this storyline--and it was all so very interesting! Michonne and Carl have a bonding moment while out with the zombies, and I love the way they interact. Andrea and Michonne have a 'normal' conversation while having lunch. And Jesus takes Rick to the Kingdom, where they also happen to meet up with Dwight. I had a feeling he was going to turn on Negan. As soon as I figured out one of Negan's wives used to be his and that whole iron thing happened, it became obvious. So, we have Rick offering his group, a King willing to destroy the asshole Negan, and a man hell-bent on revenge against the bastard who s... moretole his wife. There can only be more bloodshed ahead, as well as death. Looking forward to it!
review 2: I never know how to rate single issues of Walking Dead comics, since they feel so brief and are never a complete story. (It's more like watching a TV episode up until the commercial break and waiting a month to continue.) The issue itself was pretty good: we meet an important new character (who has a tiger), get some interesting Carl and Michonne stuff (and I wonder if it was inspired by their TV show interactions), and someone claims a change of heart (though it's tough to tell if the person is being truthful, given what other people have pulled in this series). (As an aside: I find it hard, though, to keep up with the comics while watching the TV show because the cast is so different at the current point in the comics. I keep forgetting who some characters are, and it's frustrating because a single issue isn't enough time to remember, sometimes. But that's an issue of mixing media, not a problem with the comic itself.)Anyway, I'm curious to see how the Negan stuff will play out and how it will affect the series. He's clearly supposed to be the next Governor-like character (and presumably worse), but I can't tell yet if it's a ploy to keep interest while the Governor is on the TV show or to show that there's always someone worse out there. I'm getting pretty sick of him, though. He needs to show another dimension of himself or be dealt with very soon. less
