review 1: Excuse my language, but this volume was completely f**ked up. (***SPOILERS***)Here we find a boy killing his twin brother because, hey, he's going to come back to life. Right? This creates desperate fear amongst our survivors. What to do with a child who doesn't understand what he did? Will he do it again? What no one asks if he is a product of the world they now live in, or a true sociopath? This is where Carl exhibits his own sociopathic tendencies. Again, is he just doing what needs to be done without a second thought, or is he enjoying this?Let us not forget the hunters (it's not called Fear The Hunters for nothing, ya know). When animals are scarce, and maybe a little too fast, what makes for better game than survivors passing through?Humanity and humility shine throug... moreh when Dale recognizes Rick's sacrifices and hard choices, through Rick's remorse over doing what had to be done, and Carl's ultimate confession.
review 2: Well ...... O_oNot too many appearances by zombies in this edition and when they did happen to 'jump out of the bushes' (literally), they were almost completely out of place to the story ...... which is just weird. But the human toll in this story is horrible. You think that things really couldn't get worse and then *BAM* .... it sinks another 2 feet lower. Definitely not a 'feel-good' story line in this one. Not that they really are, but you always kind of feel that they somehow rise above the horde and carry on with some dignity, such as it is considering the circumstances. This one just lays it bare and it's a whole lot uncomfortable to witness it. I really have no idea where they go from here or how much lower they will sink into the insanity. You just wonder how they can survive it all - or if they can - and how they can deal with it all in their heads and keep relatively sane. Well, as sane as you can be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. less
