review 1: I enjoy reading the Chet and Bernie series...it is a light-hearted read after a day of work and provides smiles as I listen to the story on my way home. In this story, the duo find themselves in Mexico dealing with bad guys who are involved with circus shenanigans that end up with the death of two people. The story line is the usual efforts by Chet and Bernie to understand what is going on. In Mexico, the two get separated and Chet hooks up with one of the circus animals, Peanuts, an elephant from the circus before being reunited with Bernie. They take charge of the situation and bring the story to a close. One of the reasons I enjoy the story is because you hear Chet's view of some of the things that people do and say and how he finds their behavior and talking confusing ... moreor downright crazy from a dog's point of view.
review 2: I just love the Chet and Bernie books. Written from the POV of Chet the Dog, this book is warm, funny and entertaining. Chet and his owner Bernie are PIs and are on the trail of a missing elephant. As nauseatingly cute as the premise sounds, the result is a gorgeous, funny book with great characters. Bernie the PI is lovely - he is my new fictional crush - and Chet the Dog is just awesomeness on four legs. Spencer Quinn is a brilliant writer (and probably an awesome dog owner). less
