review 1: Vastia is at peace no more danger lurks to threaten our heroes. Or does it?Trouble quickly finds our heroes again. This time they are accused of poisoning Queen Loranella and locked in the dungeon. Now they must escape and find not only a cure for the queen but also discover who framed them in the first place. They journey across Vastia in search of a cure but finding it won't be easy they are pursued by the ever vigilant night battalion. In the end they discover that the cure lies in the world of dreams. Now they must face the hazards of the harsh unpredictable world where dreams are born. will they make it back alive? Great exciting read. Still a little upset that the kids are left behind again though. Their not really Loyals, they're more like the sit at home and waiter... mores. Maybe in the next book.
review 2: At the end of the third Familiars book, it was unclear as to whether the story was finished or if there would be more to come. There were also several loose ends regarding some of the sidestories - Aldwyn's long-lost sister, the Noctonati, Skylar's promise to her sister, and others - that I was honestly frustrated about. I know in real life things to wrap up nice and neat, but I certainly enjoy my storylines to. If not neat, at least some messy closure. The fourth Familiars book picks up after the Prophesized Three have saved Vastia from the Undead Army of Paksahara and reunited the animal and human kingdoms so they rule together side by side. Aldwyn yearns to meet his sister Yeardley, Gilbert wants to make his family proud so he is improving his skills, and Skylar seems to still be interested in the forbidden art of necromancy- then a disaster strikes. Queen Loranella is poisoned, and our once-heroes are suspects behind the attempt on her life. To clear their names, they will go on a journey to find the cure for Queen Lorenella's poisoning, and run like fugitives all the way. Yeah so it kind of recycles plot from the first book, but there's a new aspect involving talking, walking, and problem-solving in the land of dreams (and some soul-searching too) ... the action is non-stop and we meet lots of past characters again, so that was nice. I'm just happy to see that the adventure isn't quite over, and I'm looking forward to book five :) less
