Charlotte & Thomas Pitt
review 1: I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Anne Perry another entry into the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series. The book mixed issues surrounding history of the British empire in the 1890s, how women were treated in that time frame and how utterly they were dependent on being married and on their reputations in "society", how rape was viewed, and the British judicial system. I found it all quite interesting and the mystery was entertaining. The end was a little bit of a letdown for me. I have enjoyed the changes in the characters and I am enjoying the growing friendship between Lord Narroway and Lady Vespasia Cumming-Gould.
review 2: #8 in the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series. Victorian era adventures, crimes and this case a suspenseful trial. The usual characters ba
... moren together for a suspenseful conclusion. Plot starts out a bit slowly and is also slow in tying up the connections, but when the author ties them up, it is a good story. Focus on Victorian attitudes and the seemingly ineffectiveness of legal system is revealing. Like some of the others in the series better as they came together more smoothly. Still a good one. Am going to read the one prior next. Probably should be read in order to see progression of characters. less

I do love Anne Perry's novels, but a few of them labor too long in ignorance of the obvious.

I love a good Anne Perry historical novel and this is one of her bests IMHO.

I think I finished this only because I like the narrator, Davina Porter.
