review 1: A well plotted cosy ideal for the holidays. I'm not so sure about the heavenly Department of Good Intentions which sounds as if Heaven has Good Intentions even if they don't always work out (although perhaps that's true since goodness knows we thwart Heaven on a regular basis down here). Bailey Ruth is sent to protect a little boy taken to meet his grandmother. I know he's given all the documentation that will be needed to prove his identity but why did Lou just drop him? That is asked several times but never really answered. I think Hart just didn't want to have to deal with another character and be all wound up in dealing with proving Keith's identity rather than moving the plot along. The family seems rather unnecessarily complicated anyway, especially since no one othe... morer than Hammond is related to Susan except through Jake. By the end of the story Bailey Ruth has helped settle the mystery but has also created an unfortunate ghostly character in Constable M. Loy and two police officers are going to be just waiting for that red headed officer to turn up again. It was a pretty good read all in all.
review 2: I wanted to like this book -- I did. I bought it to read at Christmas-time especially because I wanted something light and, well, merry, in which I could count on everything turning out all right. But, unfortunately, it was just TOO light for me. The plot was predictable, the characters (read: suspects) were stereotyped to the point of being entirely uninteresting, and the child -- the potential heir to millions that has caused all the mayhem in the first place -- was so well-behaved and unrealistically charming as to make one suspect he was, in fact, a Stepford child. I found myself actually sympathizing with the suspects (including the murderer) which I'm pretty sure was not the intent of the author. I wanted to like this book -- I did -- but sadly, I did not. less

It's a cute book and a very easy read. It wasn't especially thought provoking, but was entertaining.
