review 1: I just adored this book. I didn't grow up in the south, or in the time that this book took place, and even though I have seen movies, and read stories I was still appalled by the "Eugenics Program". The book didn't end the way that I was expecting. I always enjoy being surprised by endings. I didn't have a roller coaster of emotions, but it certainly tugged my heart strings, and I would definitely recommend this book!
review 2: A well written, well researched book that stimulated my mind and my heart. A historical fiction novel (based on true events) set in North Carolina that had me shocked, appalled and utterly heartbroken. Birth control, welfare, gender roles and race issues are all addressed in this book. We may think times have changed since 1960 but some ... moreof these issues dealing with basic human rights are still being addressed today. less
