review 1: I don't know what I expected from this book. I say that about a lot of books I read, but for this one it's true. I might have read what it was about back when I first bought it, but the book has been sitting on my shelves for a long time, so I've forgotten. Whatever I was expecting, what I got was an amazing human story about a young woman in a crappy situation because of things she had no control over. The main character, Anya, was just the kind of teenager I like to read about; someone mature beyond her years. With everything she's witnessed and everything she's done to keep what's left of her family safe and together, she handled everything with grace and wisdom, and that's what I liked. This story was particularly interesting for me to read because it has hints of scien... morece fiction, since it's set in the 2080s, and with everything hinted about the setting, the author could have taken the Hunger Games/Divergent road, of making the story about taking down a corrupt government or saving the people or something else large scale. But instead it was just a story about a girl making the best of her situation in a pretty crappy world. And I liked that. Because not everything has to be about saving the world.
review 2: "All These Things I've Done" by Gabreielle Zevin was an interesting take of the future of society. It takes place in New York City, New York. Through out the book there are references to places that are recognizable to the average person. For example, the Statue of Liberty is mentioned but, it is no longer a landmark and museum, it is a correctional facility for children . This gives the reader a little bit of insight to what is needed in this said society.he events are told by Anya Balanchine. The purpose of this book is to entertain. There is no real factual value to this book. It is about the future so there really is not much of a way that there could be any "hard" facts in the book. The subject matter of the book is also a reason why it is written to entertain. The theme of this book would be that you can not let your past define you. The entire book is about Anya trying to break away from he past and her family. She belongs to a family of mobsters and really does not want her siblings or herself to get involved with that lifestyle because she understands the outcome that it could easily hold. This was a narration of past events, multiple times in the book the narrator speaks directly to the reader. "All These Things I've Done" is written as if you are being told a story of past events. It is told in chronological order, which makes the book very easy to follow. Overall I really enjoyed this book, I thought that is was an interesting take on a very over used topic, the future of society. I think one of the reasons I liked it so much was that it was still the same types of people and the same places that we know today. I also liked how the the things that they were in a shortage of (and had been their entire life) was not really dwelt on. This made the book itself feel more realistic. less
