review 1: I had mixed feelings about this book. I found it very hard to get into, and very hard to continue reading. The chapters that dealt with the past were so slow moving. In addition to that, none of the characters had any redeeming qualities except for one character, who wasn't really developed in his role (Mac). The two main female characters were incredibly self-centered, so much so that I just wanted to shake them half the time as I was reading. And while I realize there really are people like them that exist, I just didn't care enough about any of the characters to really enjoy the story much. While I did empathize with Lila with her grief having lost a baby myself, her treatment of her husband was mind boggling (again, I do realize that grieving people react differe... morently, but she annoyed me). I really was just slogging through toward the last third of the book just to finish, but this isn't a book I'd recommend to friends. I'm surprised it is so highly rated as it was too boring for me.
review 2: I thought the idea for the book brilliant, however the main characters Kat and Lila started to irritate me. As I was reading the book the story intertwining between the past and present, I found myself seeing the pieces of the puzzle come together, but there were many unanswered questions, such as what happened to Ben and Carla? I would have liked to know how Tom did to deal with the miscarriage. All in all I kept reading and would recommended this book. less
