review 1: I discovered Jane Casey by chance (when I'm looking for new crime/thriller authors) but became a fan quickly, and this one is probably her best book yet. Very hard to put down, we want to know more and more. It was very interesting to know more about Derwent's past and why he is like he is - if that will make a difference in future books and his relationship with Maeve, it's something we will need to wait and see. I hope so, but I doubt it! ;)
review 2: Every Jane Casey mystery/police procedural I read makes me a bigger fan. Casey, born in Dublin and educated at Trinity and Oxford, lives in England. Her detective Maeve Kerrigan is English born of Irish (Donegal) parents. Police Detective Kerrigan is smart and ruthless in her pursuit of a sadistic murderer. Ca... moresey constructs her stories so that the reader has sufficient clues to whom the suspects and guilty may be. This was a book I couldn't put down and read in 2 days. Casey is the Irish female mystery writer some of us have been looking for, though some may prefer writers who set their mysteries in Ireland and aren't Irish. For my money, I prefer Casey. less
