review 1: This book was practically perfect. Wow. Full of action, sass, awesome characters, and a storyline that could all too soon be terrifyingly real, it was so fun to read. I absolutely loved it. I also kind of glad I waited to read this until the sequel release date was closer because I REALLY REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. okay now go get your hands on a copy and read this book. Actual rating: 4.5 (but more towards 5 than 4)
review 2: 01:30 in the morning is when I finished reading this book and I knew from the first page that it will keep me up all night. And boy was I right.I haven't read a dystopian novel in too long, mainly because it feels like I read the best and rarely does any other books come near that standard. But I'm so glad to have been proven
... morewrong. Disruption has rapidly zoomed right to the top of my favourite list, and boy it secured it place so well. I haven't been on such incredible, addicting roller coaster in so long. Just simply blown away.Ok so, from what I gathered a good dystopian novel's first priority is to have a good plot. This is what plays the most important role because it's the plot or issue that has to get resolved over the series. If that isn't engaging enough, the whole dystopian theme just doesn't work efficiently. But Disruption definitely had that 100%. The whole word isn't so complicated to get your head around, in fact I'd say it's in the near future and I can potentially see our world becoming like that perhaps, which is why the world building wasn't overly taken over or dragged on allowing the reader to fairly easily slip into it. So the main element to this story is something called M-Band. It's a band attached to the wrist which pretty much does everything, from paying bills with it, calling and messaging someone, to monitoring your heart rate and even taking pictures and video's. But the main feature is called phera-tech which is an upgrade you get when you are 18. It basically helps you find your perfect match or someone who's close to in by monitors the opposite sex's Pheromones and giving you a percentage of how compatible two person are. The higher the percentage the closer the bonding. However it has a downside to it. A person can suddenly be seen as negative to others, that's when they become a threat to society and can no longer stay. This is where our main character gets involve. She is against this system and fights for her life to claim back what has been taken away from her.Maggie. One fierce, stubborn and strong-minded character I've met. I don't know if I should call her brave or reckless or a mixture of both, but damn the girl lives on the edge, and loves taking life-threatening risk. Her goal is fixed, unchangeable, and she will do anything to achieve that, and I mean anything. She does not befriend anyone, only allies. Whatever she does, whoever she gets involve with, she has a motive/purpose behind it. Hell, she gives coffee regularly to her work guard with the intention that he may be useful to her when needed. This is a type of character we're dealing with. In between we get many more characters but my favourite is Gus. I LOVE him so much, but more that anything I'm so fond of the relationship he has with Maggie. Their bond is seriously one of a kind, I've never read one like that before. It's a complete messed up friendship. “Gus groaned loudly from the back. ‘Maggie?’‘Yeah, I’m here,’ I said, feeling more tired by the second. He groaned again and rolled onto his side. ‘I hate you with the depth, breadth and heat of Hell’s most torturous pit.’A smile overtook my face as Travis looked between the road and the two of us. ‘What?’ he asked, looking disgruntled. ‘No thank you? She did save your life, you know.’Gus snorted, which only made me smile more. ‘Which part should I thank her for? Destroying my life, or leading me into yet another death trap?’Travis shook his head and refocused on the road. ‘And I thought my crew were dysfunctional”And then we of course have Quentin Mercer, preferably known as Quin. He's someone grown up believing one thing but coming out of his shell believing another. I won't say he's a bad boy and I'm glad he ain't, because if you have a fierce character like Maggie, the love interest doesn't need to over throw her but somehow tame her. But mind you, he ain't a good boy either. Their relationship though, it's one beautiful disaster. However unfortunate it is, as reader you know right from the beginning that the only reason why Maggie's and Quin's path is gonna intersect is cause of a motive and you so freaking know it's gonna end in a disaster. However that didn't stop the freaking hot, slow burning chemistry to develop, and boy as a reader you can't help but fall in love along with them. I completely adore the romance in this novel, it wasn't there for the sake of it, it has a purpose, it's own kind of motive that moulds the two characters together into something so beautiful that helps both of them individually to become a better person. If you were to take a step back and follow the map of the romance, from start to finish, you will be blown away as to what the author has created. “somehow we were the perfect yin and yang –his light to my dark. His truth to my lies. His sacrifices to my selfishness.”Oh oh the ending. Without spoiling anything I will tell you this, as reader you are gonna pick the puzzles up on the way and make a conclusion as to what happens. You won't be 100% sure but it's gonna be part of your many theories. But when it actually happens, it's like a sucker punch on you face, and damn would it hurt or what. One of the main reason why Disruption was a massive hit for me is because my emotion and thoughts were on such high all night, and I love it when the author knows how to play with your emotion. It was a roller coaster, and don't take that lightly. It has too many of those heart-pounding moments where you're on the ride with Maggie, living your life on the freaking edge and you can't help but hold your breath till it's over (and yes I did hold my breath). Then there's those moment where you cannot read on, cause it's too much, you have to close the book, scream a lot, maybe take a loo break to gather your thoughts up and be brave enough to carry on. But there is also moments where you will be grinning like a monkey, feeling as if you lips are gonna rip off from your face. And my favourite moments, where you're gonna close your eyes and take a deep sigh, because of how overwhelming the feelings becomes, especially when you can feel your heart melt a little.I'm telling you now, this books is gonna be something so big, so popular in the dystopian genre, hell probably even in the YA world. So you have to jump on the train now before it goes too deep and becomes really crowded. Mark my word: you will be a fool to not have read Disruption. less
