Brotherband Chronicles
review 1: Once again Flanagan delivers solid entertainment with plenty of action and humor, as he sends the crew of the Heron on their next adventure: serving as the Skandian patrol force for Araluen for the next 8 months or so. But before the Heron departs, a new crew member arrives on the scene: an enormous dog with a penchant for chewing things to bits. And the unsavory Tursgud and his crew are sent packing by Erak, but cause plenty of trouble later in the book. Once arrived in Araluen, the Heron finds itself responding to an emergency mission when 12 Araluen villagers are captured for the Socorran slave markets one night, and Gilan the Ranger, sent by the King to summon the Skandians to court, comes along. Dependably, Flanagan never allows his darlings to suffer overly much, ... moretheir skills and smarts win the day, and there is plenty of comic dialogue along the way. Ages 12 and up.
review 2: The BrotherBand Slaves of Socorro doesn't disappoint. We once again join Hal, Stig, Thorn and the gang in a new adventure. As the Title states this one will be about Slaves of Socorro or more accurately Slaves taken to Socorro but the title makes more sense. These are great stories full of action and fun. We get to see Hal fail in some minor way which helps him mature and grow. In this installment we have an Aurlen Ranger join the crew but not Halt or Will even though it is still someone both those ranges know well. There is plenty of action, humor, adventure, excitement and even perhaps some romance. There is also an addition to the crew which as a member of Heron and become pivotal to the success of their mission. This book is tied with the new on being released in December Scorpion Mountain just like The Invaders and The Hunters were tied together. I give it five stars for a fun, great easy read that I was unable to put down because I wanted to know what came next. If you are between the ages of 7 and 107 you should pick this book up and if you haven't read the previous books I suggest you buy the entire series. These books are meant to be read over and over again and the story doesn't grow old or tired. I hope we get many more books in this series from Mr. Flanagan and look forward to reading Scorpion Mountain coming out in December. less
