review 1: I am not pleased to announce I'm very DISAPPOINTED(*cry*) I so much liked the Herons In the first book and I actually liked them in the very first part of the book but then.... *Lydia*First, I get the impression she runs around the forest..ALOT.And when you run around a lot in a forest you would get dirty, messy, sweaty...right? But instead Im getting a girl who's slender (understandable) No blemishes (WHAT!?), and has nice hair simply pulled back with a ribbon (wouldn't it be half pulled out and messy?).I couldn't understand it. Apart from that she's OK , she didn't appear to be bossy, and catty and try to take over anything. She just wanted to be involved which was understandable. *BARAT*The stuck up, selfish, ign... moreorant, douche who 'going' to marry Lydia. I did not like him at all....AT ALL. I don't even want to talk of him. *The Herons and Thorn*That whole dragged out battle at the end totally lost my interest. You hardly heard about Stefan, Edvan, Ulf, Wulf let alone Jespar at the end. So you sort of lost contact with them and they were what kept me reading so when they sort of went out of the picture I lost interest. Don't get me wrong Hal is pretty cool but he's just not that...Exciting?He was sensible, mature, a genius and kind of...bland.Thorn was a little better though (meh). Then the whole incident with Ingvar getting hit with the arrow. It was a tad frustrating. Hal seemed to appear like he couldn't understand that they were in a battle, and when people are in battle they get flippen 'HIT'. Still I am (A TWINY) bit (TWINY TWINY BIT) keen to read the next book. ONLY and I mean ONLY to see if they ever actually catch this flippen pirate. And if Hal ever sorts it out with tursguard. Other than that...wouldn't be upset if I didn't finish this series unfortunately.(flip this is such a bad review... but please just BEAR WITH ME ha-ha)
review 2: You may occasionally have to remind yourself that this series is written for 8-14 year olds - it's a rollicking fun tale, and Hal has thus far proved well and able to save villages, design ships and then design awesome advancements, including some kind of steering tightener that makes Heron even faster and more agile and The Mangler! (Read the book to find out exactly what the Mangler is!)Great interplay between Thorn and the young crew of the Heron - and the newest crew member is a wonderful addition to the crew's arsenal, and the crew's chemistry too!Bring on Brotherband #3! less

I thought the book was OK, but not good enough for me to want to keep reading the series.

I enjoyed the first three books of this series. Good juvenile reading.
