review 1: When I read a Mignola-related graphic novel I always expect excellence, and I am rarely disappointed. This collection did not disappoint. Nor was it my absolute favorite. Just another run-of-the-mill, amazing, page-turning Mignola book. It's a testament to the storytelling that I've been reading this series (the earlier BPRD tales) completely backwards, and I am rarely confused or bored. Yeah, I've seriously read "Vampire" first, then '48, and now this. I'll have to get my hands on '46 soon. The art is good, but I'll admit that I don't count Ba/Moon in my favorites list of Mignolaverse staples (Those would include Fegredo, Corben, Haren, Davis, and Mignola himself). This book just furthered my excitement for the inevitable vampire uprising.
review 2: Welp, it's
... more another BPRD volume, this one taking place in the side series following Professor Bruttenholm in the early days of the Bureau. He's following up on the vampire threat he encountered in 1946, and he sends some guys to investigate, leading to freaky occurrences involving time-displaced vampires and other craziness. Pretty good stuff, with some really nice art by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba. I'm not sure how much this stuff ties into the main BPRD series, although the little Russian girl/demon Varvara is involved here, and she popped up again in some of the more recent Hell on Earth volumes, so I'm curious to see how much of a link there is. Also, we get some scenes with lil' Hellboy, and he's pretty cute. I'll take more of that. less

Another good story about the B.P.R.D. and their many paranormal adventures.

Fairly good, as usual. I'm enjoying little Hellboy. :)
