review 1: This was the second S. J. Bolton book I read; I read my first one, Sacrifice, last week, so you can tell how eager I was to get my hands on another and how quick they are to read. Both were almost unputdownable. Yes, the plots are far-fetched but S. J. Bolton is such a good writer that I was swept up in to the inner world of both books. It is great to see strong women characters who are the centre of the action and perform selfless, heroic acts. I don't seriously believe, however, that anyone, male or female, could stand the horrors that poor Lacey Flint goes through and remain able to function as well as she does. Still, this is fiction and rip-roaring entertainment. You do have to have a cold-blooded streak as some of the details are grisly, but I didn't get the se... morense of them being described in a gratuitous way. There is also a serious message as well - the terrible treatment of rape victims. I don't know whether to get out the next one in the series from the library in two days - I may never be able to do anything else but read S. J. Bolton books for weeks!
review 2: Excellent book. One of the best thrillers I've read in a while. It stars Lacy Flint, a young police constable, who can't seem to stay out of trouble with her superiors. She is a complicated woman who does things her way, even though it keeps her in trouble. I really enjoyed this roller coaster ride up to it's wow conclusion. Lots of mystery, action and suspense. I look forward to he next story in the series. less
