review 1: Nicolas Duhamel, becomes a best selling author and his book 'The Envelope' is made into a movie. He is only 24 years old and becomes the hottest item on Facebook and Twitter. He becomes so entrenched in the processes of the social media that he loses all his real friends. He is suppose to be working on his second novel but hasn't written a word. His character has no redeeming qualities but I read this to the end to see if deRosnay could pull the ending out to a great conclusion but it doesn't happen in a realistic way. Not as good as her other works.
review 2: Sarah's Key is obviously her best book, but I keep reading de Rosnay hoping for another heartfelt, engrossing read like Sarah's Key. Alas, this book is not it, and I actually felt betrayed by the descri
... moreption on the book's jacket. The secret is not discovered while on vacation; we are relegated to flashbacks of years before when Nicolas discovered this secret, and when the secret is revealed, it feels very anti-climactic. I could barely tolerate Nicolas because he was such a pompass ass, and the author's inclusion of the foundering of a cruise ship off the Italian coast didn't really fit the rest of the story. Is she trying to cast Nicolas as a bit heroic? A kinder human than he was for the entire book? What I did enjoy was pages 195 - 197 when Nicolas provided the writing styles and quirks of other authors. And I also liked page 235 when another writer explains to Nicolas how vain authors are and why they are this way. I also liked the author's nod to writer's using their own life for fictional stories - the art imitates life theme. less

More like a 3.5. A little slow to start. Once I got into it, I enjoyed the story.

This book was slow to get into but made me think a lot about ego and narcissism.

Took a lot longer to develop than Sarah’s keys. Loved the ending though.
