Precious Ramotswe's Very First Cases
review 1: As an adult reader, I have greatly enjoyed The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that children could also meet Precious Ramotswe, just as she begins her detective work as a mere child. In this story, Precious befriends a brother and sister who are new to her school. She meets their pet Kosi, a friendly meerkat. When her new friends' cow is missing, Precious uses her tracking skills to help her friends find their cow.My two favorite things about this book are: 1) Kindness and gentleness are present throughout the book, and 2) I can get a glimpse of life in Botswana.I will definitely read the other books in this series and would recommend them to children and adults alike.
review 2: I could just imagine reading this
... morebook out loud to a group of children. I actually found myself reading out loud to myself just to really appreciate the sound of some of the sentences! It is definitely a children's book, but it is beautifully written in a way that children will still understand. This is a great beginning mystery book because it never gets boring, would be loved by both girls and boys, and moves quickly. Also, I appreciated that it was never scary. I would feel comfortable recommending this book to readers of all ages. less

An enjoyable story for 2nd-4th graders with plenty of cross-curricular connections.

A delightful read. I think it would be a terrific choice for a read out loud story.
