The Gardella Vampire Hunters: Victoria
review 1: Fantastic! Plenty of action, romance, surprises and vampires. Venators rule!Demons are mutiplying and threaten to take over. Vampires are running, hiding from the threat. The Venators have to use all their skill and knowledge to find a magical orb that can send the demons back where they belong. Then they can deal with the vampires, including our 'favorite' Queen. We finally find out Wayren's background. Sebastian redeems himself. And Max comes to his senses about Victoria. Though not without alot of tears and swearing on our part. And those are the smartest pigeons I've ever heard of.I halfway wish there were more books, but the ending is so perfect, it just feels right to leave Victoria and Max right where they are. And there is a spinoff series to appease us.Favorite sce... morene(s): Rescuing Wayren from the flames, the Venator's "gambling' games & Victoria and Lilith's final battle.
review 2: There are 5 books in this series and it is set in the 1820's where Victoria (our heroine) kills vampires in corsets and with big hair. The other 4 books have been leading up to the finale with Victoria going against the Vampire Queen. There is a love triangle going on with her also - she's a busy girl. One of the issues I have with these books is that all vampires are bad and must die. However, the vampire fighting crew is not that big so not sure how they stay ahead. This doesn't even go into all the demons.**Probably some spoilers after this. **I was sad when the husband died in the first book, but it wasn't completely unexpected. I wasn't sure why the vampires never went after Victoria's Mom throughout the series, but no, Mom remained completely oblivious and safe. And most of the side stories with Mom and her friends were a bit annoying.Another issue I had with this book is that she could sense vampires... until she couldn't. Then vampires can indeed be out in the sun if they drink this certain potion only available once every hundred years or so. So, Victoria questions at one point that anyone could be a vampire - even Max, the one fighting beside her. When everyone is suspected, that's a hard line. With the above being said, I still found the book (and series) enjoyable enough. There are always basic questions that go unanswered in these types of books, sometimes, you just have to roll with it.I enjoyed the romance aspect of it and I was buying into the interactions of the characters. Overall, a decent read. Not sure I will remember it long-term, but it was easy reading and flowed well. less
