review 1: This was a sequel I was awaiting for a while, and it was a very satisfying one. There is something so delicate about the way the author(s) write this character--you get insight into how she is feeling, and yet you never really know why, or what she is thinking, but it doesn't give you a feeling of frustration. Rather, you completely understand the private and careful nature of the character. I don't quite know how they do it, but it's masterful. This was an interesting plot line, too, in which two cases resolved themselves with the oblique help of the protagonist while she simultaneously went through her own issues. It's not a straightforward mystery, but it's beautifully done.
review 2: I love this series. Freida Klein is an interesting protagonist. Okay, sh... moree is a psychotherapist so having a multifaceted personality is almost a given. Her ongoing antagonist is almost a non-player in the third book BUT he rests heavily on Freida's mind. For anyone who has done a home renovation with a contractor, one of the sub-plots will have you "feeling the pain". The writing team don't sprinkle fairy dust over the story... bad things happen, good people are harmed, doubt and indecision reign and some lives go on. less
