review 1: honestly this one felt a little disjointed with having the quick switches between nix&benny to riot and chong to lilah(& joe later)i just had issues caring about what was happening at points. of course that doesnt mean i didnt enjoy this book, i did like it quite a lot. the carry over of elements from the last book was nice(the wild animals escaped from the zoos and circuses). the introduction of the reapers felt kind of week though, they didnt seem menacing like charlie and preacherjack and their crews were. the story of nix and benny dealing with the deaths of their respective parental figures was interesting, with benny hearing toms voice however nix just seemed like she was just becoming a, well as everyone calls her, "witch". as for their emotional impact attempt in t... morehis book with chongs injury i just didnt get affected by it like the past 2 books. maybe the next(and last) book will fix that
review 2: Jonathan Maberry outdoes himself once again. He takes readers back into the Rot & Ruin, where Benny, Nix, Chong, and Lilah are recovering from Tom's death in the last book. We meet a whole cast of characters, from the deadly reapers to the traitorous Mother arose, from the hulking Brother Alexi to the murderous madman Saint John of the Knife. This time around, the samurai of the apocalypse are dealing with a deranged cult called the Night Church, who's purpose is to deliver the darkness to everyone and anyone who don't share their fanatical views. Maberry keeps at it with the pulse pounding action, the budding romance between characters, and the constant ever looming prescience of the undead. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book, some pleasant and others not so pleasant. By far, this was the most heartbreaking and heart pounding book of the Rot & Ruin series. less
